The IB Biology and IB Chemistry classes participated in the Group 4 project at Kalmia Gardens. The Group 4 Project consisted of “science in a box.” IB biologists and chemists were assigned random groups and boxes filled with various instruments to perform tests within the environment.
The groups were assigned to aquatic or woodsy locations of Kalmia. The Chemists and Biologists tested the soil and water within their location. Some of the experiments performed include tests for pH, phosphorus, nitrogen, and potassium abundance. Groups assigned to the areas around the pond and artesian well also tested for amounts of dissolved oxygen in water samples.
After conducting five experiments, the groups traveled to West Hartsville Baptist Church to make posters and present their findings.
